Small skull (1.25") with real Australian opal chip mushrooms growing from eye orbitals. Features small dogbane beetle crawling up the underside of the skull to complete the diarama.
These mushrooms are a special project that I let myself indulge in making. Each mushroom started as a cast from a mushroom that I harvested myself. Once the cast had set, I sculpted on top of it to create the dimension you see here. The stalks are sculpted around an armature of guitar strings. The bases are also cast from gnarled wood that I have collected over the years. After the sculpting is completed, the mushrooms are crystallized to appear as if they are growing out of a dewy, crystal garden. Each garden is posed in a cylindrical glass display measuring approximately 3.25" x 1.75". Please note, this particular mushroom garden does not glow or fluoresce.
